About Law Day

Law Day is scheduled for April 19th, 2008 around the province. This will be the 26th year the Canadian Bar Association, in cooperation and with funding from the Alberta Law Foundation and the Law Society of Alberta, will organize activities throughout the province to celebrate Law Week. Law Day is a celebration and commemoration of our nation's adoption of the Charter. The ongoing goal of Law Day is to increase public awareness and knowledge and to foster a better understanding of our laws and our legal system. The National theme for Law Day is “Access to Justice.” This theme continues to fit within the core recommendations from the Alberta Summit on Justice.

We are pleased to announce that Tamasine Davies will head the Provincial Committees. Activities will be organized by Allan Vinni in Fort McMurray, Cameron Kemp in Medicine Hat, Ryan D. Anderson in Lethbridge, and Vita Houlihan in Red Deer. The Calgary Co-Chairs will be Wayne Barkauskas and Cynthia Scheible and the Edmonton Co-Chairs will be Jeremiah Kowalchuk and Lisa Hickman. The Drumheller Coordinator is Ingrid Thornton.
