Wouldn't it be nice to have the court process explained to you in an informal, entertaining setting? Have you ever agonized over being called for jury duty, or wondered why lawyers appear in black robes? Law Day demystifies the court process by opening the Court House doors on a Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Law Day will introduce you to various people in the judicial system and members of the police, lawyers and judges. Whether you are curious about the court system, are seeking a free activity filled day or are a student interested in legal work, we welcome you to join us.
Law Day is a free, family oriented event promoting access to justice!
The 28th annual Law Day will open at 10:00 a.m. with a performance of "O Canada" by Kevin Mott and greetings from dignitaries.
- Booths will be open throughout the day representing numerous law related services, in addition to the Edmonton Police Service repelling demonstration
- Alberta Justice presents on the history of juries and jury selection
- Sit in on a Children's Trial featuring the Trial Jack and Jill
- Watch the annual Mock Trial Tournament for High School teams
- Join in on the mock trial presentation for the Family Trial Roberts v. Carson and help decide if Barbie requires financial support from Ken
- Sit in on the Civil Trial On a Boat and help decide who gets to be on a boat!
- View the gallery of poster art and written works by the children of Mee-Yah-Noh Elementary School
- Tour the Court House and see the holding cells, super courtroom and much more - Aussi disponible en Francais.
